Beyond Appearance
Workshop on body shaming, self-image and respect
Focus area: Body Shaming । Age: 4–14 । SDG 3 – Health & Well-Being
Description:
“Beyond Appearance” helps children understand the difference between how they look and who they are. The workshop strengthens self-confidence, body image and respect through dialogue, creativity and safe communities.
The focus is on well-being, empathy and creating an environment where children learn to appreciate their own and others’ uniqueness.
Creative Practical Activity
In this workshop, children work with the butterfly’s life cycle as a symbol of change, development and inner strength. They learn that just as a butterfly goes through many phases, so do humans – and no phase defines our worth.
- Drawing the four stages: egg, caterpillar, pupa and butterfly
- Painting colorful wings with a focus on identity and inner qualities
- Conversation about change, development and self-acceptance
Digital Activity
Using iPads and Canva, children create digital “My Inner Strength” posters that focus on personal qualities rather than appearance.
- Canva intro: text, colors, simple shapes
- Children choose 3–5 words that describe their strengths
- Posters are shared, printed or displayed
